GERMAN BARON "I always search for images. Mirar para ver - I look in order to see." German looks through the image of life to capture life via the image. His work with color film and available light reveals passages of suspended time, a dream world filled with ghosts, shadows, silhouette fragments, and blurs. German's work also plays with the capture of motion in photographs as a form of cubism, part of a reality but not all of it. German believes that New York is magic, a chameleon that transforms itself all the time. He is especially enchanted by the city at night, the contrast of its ambiance to the corporate daytime, the bohemian quality, and the way the city is transformed into a racetrack with all the cars. Born in Bogotá, Colombia, Germán Barón studied photography and graphic design in New York City at the School of Visual Arts, the Parsons School of Design, and the Fashion Institute of Technology. A photojournalist, graphic designer, stage and fashion photographer, Barón is also a still photographer for cinema. His stills were used in Nobel Laureate Gabriel García Márquez's film "Edipo Alcalde," (Mayor Oedipus); by theater director Jorge Alí Triana; and by Joseph Papps's Latino Theater and Film Festival. |
